God’s Word – The Perfect Standard

The most powerful book in the world is the Bible; the reason is because it contains the living word of God. Not only does it contain the word of God, it IS the word of God. 2 Timothy 3:16 says “All scripture is given by Inspiration of God and it is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction for instruction in righteousness”. In John 6:63 Jesus said “The words I speak to you they are spirit and life”. Therefore God’s word, written on pages has been breathed upon by the His Holy Spirit and thus when we read the word, it brings life transforming power to us. There is a power available to you just by reading the word of God.
God’s word should be the perfect standard by which we guide our lives. Romans 10:17, says “Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God”.  2 Corinthians 10:7 says “For we walk by Faith and not by sight”. This is key to our understanding of the role God’s word should have in our lives daily. For if Faith comes by hearing the word, and we are told to walk by Faith, then we can say the following “For we walk (live our life daily) by the word of God and not by sight (our feelings).

But today more than ever before, God’s word in the life of many believers is not a priority and not the standard by which they live. There are more Bibles and translations in print today that ever before in the History of mankind,  but a Bible on the shelf is of no use, in other words it cannot do much if it is not opened and read. Therefore many are walking by sight, by feelings and thus struggling to live in victory.
Much of our troubles occur because we base our choices and decisions not on the standard and authority of God’s word but on unreliable authorities and standards. Like the following:
1. Culture: This standard says, everyone is doing it. It is the in thing and the most popular thing to do.
2. Tradition: This standard says, we have always done it like this. It is the way I have always been taught.
3. Reason: This standard says, It seems like the logical thing to do. I cannot see any other way of doing it.
4. Emotion: This standard says, It just feels right. It is based on feelings, determined by what is going on around us, dictated by the senses.
All four of these standards are flawed by the fall. They are not solid every time. What we need is a perfect standard that will never lead us in the wrong direction, is not flawed, is not superficial and only God’s word meets that demand.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding. In ALL your ways acknowledge Him (the word) and He (the word, holy spirit) shall direct your paths”.
I encourage you more than ever to get into the word and allow it to be your ultimate standard by which you live your life. You will not be disappointed. God bless you abundantly.
